The Hoopla is for families and anyone else interested in bringing meaning to life. For many of us, having children raises questions and helps us to define our values.
The Hoopla is an event meant to be joyful and entertaining, but educational and heartening as well. The goal is to inspire and delight without heavy-handed preaching or guilt trips. It's not about what you're doing wrong, it's about finding things that work and help each other, our families and the world.
Bring your kids, bring your parents, bring your grandparents or bring anyone else who is looking for something different on a thought-provoking, joy-inducing day.
Don't miss Inspector Collector--
3-4 pm
Come witness the hijinks as the indubitably delightful Inspector
Collector helps usher in THE HOOPLA with his Museum Without Walls.
See and handle fascinating and mysterious artifacts: ultra-smooth
stones from foot of Salto Angel, the world's tallest waterfall; a
Subway drink cup lid with an embedded mosquito; two-hundred year old
Chinese food; scissors you wouldn't believe, a sequin from Elvis
Presley's all white Viva Las Vegas jumpsuit, and more different
white spoons than you could ever believe! Join the fun and bring
your own unusual objects (one or two small ones - they have to fit
inside your closed fist).
Harley Spiller, a.k.a. INSPECTOR COLLECTOR (IC) presents his
collections of menus, autographs, photographs, neckties, spoons, and more
to inspire the lifelong love of learning that necessarily comes to
collectors of integrity. His international collections have been included
in award-winning exhibitions at fine museums like the Smithsonian
Institution, the New York Historical Society, the American Museum of Natural
History, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Caracas, Venezuela. His "Junior
Collector Days" at the Stamford Museum and at The Queens Museum of Art have
drawn sell out crowds. He was named by Art & Antiques magazine as one of
the nation's "Top 100 Collectors" and two of his exhibitions have been cited
by Art in America as "Exhibitions of the Year."
IC has numerous television credits, including guest hosting for The
Maury Povich Show and The Learning Channel, and announcing and
appearing as a guest alongside Mr. T on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show.
His collections have been the subject of twelve New York Times
features and countless other stories in The Wall Street Journal, The
New Yorker's "Talk of the Town," National Public Radio's "All Things
Considered," even Ripley's Believe It or Not. In late 2005 he broke
the Guinness World Record for the World's Largest Collection of
restaurant menus.
